Travelin Man

Today, I, LeRoy, am a travelin man.  Apparently the trip we have planned and waited on is happening. 

What with airports closed or clogged due to weather and airports closed or clogged due to the government shutdown, "they" suggest we get to the airport at least 3 hours early.  So we did.  Check-in took about two minutes, went thru security in about 7 minutes, walked to our gate in about 4 minutes.  So now we have about two and a half hours to sit and watch people go by.   And the good Lord made all kinds!    I will leave it at that.   Cause I am on vacation!!!

I will say that I just about had to get down to my shorts to get thru security.  I think there was some look of lust or disgust in Vialula's eyes.   I wasn't sure which.  It took abouut 8 of those basket trays to load all our junk in to go thru the scanner.   They only wanted a piece or two in each and by the time your shoes, belts, tablets, laptops, and various other paraphernalia get loaded up the line was cursing me.   But no matter, Cause I am on vacation!!

We are supposed to be met, distributed and wined and dined tonight by some cruise people so we have that working for us!  Tomorrow we get distributed to the boat by the same cruise people and we get checked in there and then we get permission to come aboard by the Captain.   Little does he know that I have my captain's hat with me and that there may be a coup in store. 

After that we get to go reacquaint ourselves with our luggage that will hopefully be in our stateroom.  I wonder what our first dinner will consist of.   I weighed in today to determine my  base weight.   I won't disclose the exact weight as I didn't quite make my goal of 180 lbs but the current over/under amount is 200lbs for the end of the journey.   Pot is at $187.42 if anyone still wants to get in on it.

That is about all I have to say for now.   I hope the weather improves no matter where you are.   It certainly will be for us.  Talk to you soon.

I want to make it clear that this is LeRoy and not Vialula commenting.   I say that because some folks aren't going to like what I have to say.  I am not going to be completely negative because we saw and did some fabulous things here in Cochin, but there are a few things that really bothered me too.  First and foremost is that I question why anyone would choose to live in their own trash and filth.  The small business man is the backbone of India and dominates their economy.   When I say small business man it should really read as small business family.   Mom and Pop shops totally dominate everything.  They are lined up along the many narrow streets for mile after mile.  Each one selling or doing their businesses to locals, tourists, etc.  You would think that they would take a little pride in their country, their businesses and their homes and clean up the trash and garbage that is absolutely everywhere.  From what I und...

Flam, Norway - land of the midnight sun, fjords, mountains and waterfalls!

Very early morning sailing thru the fjords to Flam Sunrise in the fjord If I thought that the slow trip up the fjord to Oslo was spectacular then I just don't have the words to explain the one to Flam.  The pictures will back me up but even they don't give you the true visual treat that seeing it does.   Flam is a village on the Aurlandsfiord which is part of the vast Sognefiord.  Get those names?   And when I say village, think small.   There isn't a lot to do in Flam but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot to see.  It is a deep water port so we get off the boat and walk about 150 feet and get on the train.  It is all that close together..  When the Flam Line Railway train pulls out we are about to embark on what some call the most beautiful train journey in the world. Good Friday, Good Gaudi, and Good Food in Barcelona

Wow,  things sure do happen fast when you get to Europe.  There is a lot to see and do and not much time to do it.  No sooner are you in one country seeing what you can see in a day, then you sail away and the next morning you are in a whole new country with much to see and do there.  Because of that I am going to have to combine some stops as I try to tell you about all the great sights we have come across.  For now, I will tell you about Barcelona, Spain.  Vialula and I got to spend two and a half days there because we met up with our daughter, Melba Jean.  We disembarked the ship for a few days and got to share some time there with her.  Melba Jean came over for the week and got to explore the city before we got there so it was helpful as she could guide us to the things she enjoyed.   Barcelona is a city renowned for its fantastic art nouveau buildings, tapas, and Catalan culture!  We walked up and down Las Ramblas, the most ...
