The Isle of Skye -

Here we are in Scotland in the United Kingdom at our only stop, the Isle of Skye.   Before I go any further, let me say that Vialula was searching high and low but no signs of Jaime were found (for you Outlander fans!).  She even danced around a few stones in the Highlands but no luck in traveling back in time.  I guess it must just be a Hollywood stunt.  We are winding up our journey with only a couple of weeks remaining.  Hard to believe but it has to end sometime.

The port at the Isle of Skye is called Portree.  It is a tender port as it is very small.  Portree is a quaint little town dotted with green mountains and beautiful little shops and homes.  Our adventure today took us out of Portree to Dunvegan Castle, home of the McCleod clan for over 800 years, and they still own it today.  Though it is open to the public, the family still stays there on the upper floor when they are in town.  There are beautiful gardens though we didn't have time to see them all, but the castle was fantastic!  The castle has all kinds of  Highlander memorabilia, as you would expect of a castle owned by the same family for 800 years!

After our castle tour, we were taken back to Portree where we had the best fish and chips al fresco and the other traditional Scottish drink called "Irn Bru" ... it is an orange colored carbonated drink that has a flavor all its own.  I'll leave it at that!  After lunch, we walked around the town, did some shopping, bought some Harris Tweed, and some necklaces made of local heather.  Later, we enjoyed listening to a young bag-piper on the square after a raspberry scone at McKenzie's Bakery - delicious!

Fish & Chips!  Irn-Bru!

The young bagpiper was very good!

Leaving Portree

All in all, it was a gorgeous area that we would love to visit again.  As the history of the clans is rich and the beauty of the area immense, we would like more time.  Next time maybe we can see Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.  "Next time" .... I like the sound of that!

Heading to Ireland next.  See you soon!
