We're taking this luggage with us!
"Do not take gold, or silver, or copper in your belts, no bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff, for the laborer deserves his food." (Matthew 10:5-15)
This has been anything but a usual packing assignment because this is not a usual trip. It has required months of meticulous thought and a year and a half of planning. Jesus' friends were instructed to pack light for their trip. That sounds wonderful, but it is only wishful thinking for us.
In the movie, "Joe Versus the Volcano", the luggage salesman asks Joe (Tom Hanks' character) if he is traveling light .... or heavy. He then proceeds to sell Joe four of his premier steamer trunks (all hand-made), and then he blesses Joe with a long life! Incidentally, as the movie progresses the luggage saves his life - more than once. See the Blessing of Joe Banks ....

This notion of a world voyage was born about ten years ago when a couple of friends took a similar trip. We traveled the world with them as we read their weekly travel log. We were mesmerized by their beautiful photographs and exotic adventures, and we began to dream about "some day".
Our "some day" is about to become a reality as Leroy has vacuum-packed our clothes, and taped and tagged the luggage. (Has anyone seen the cat?!) The anxiousness of the unknown is tempered by the prospects of faraway places. Tonight, I will dream of volcanoes in the South Pacific and rain forests in South America. Tomorrow, I will dream of fields of tulips in Amsterdam and koalas and kangeroos in Australia.

It takes 24 hours for the sun to go around the earth, and it's going to take 113 days for Leroy and me to go around the world!
We thank everyone who has enabled us to make this dream come true. Take us to the volcano!
Leroy and Vialula
P.S. Correction: Leroy says the sun doesn't revolve around the earth, but that the earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours. One complete rotation of the earth around the sun takes 365.2 days... this trip may be longer than I first imagined!

Have fun! Don't take any wooden nickels!
